"If we hope to create a nonviolent world where respect and

kindness replace fear and hatred, we must begin with how we

treat each other at the beginning of life. For that is where our

deepest patterns are set. From these roots grow fear and

   alienation or love and trust."

       -Suzanne Arms

I come to this work from a family tradition of homebirth and midwifery.  My stepmother is also a midwife and I grew up around birth and midwives.  I feel blessed to be able to carry on the tradition of being with women and families as they move through the incredible transitions of pregnancy and birth.

I strongly believe that when women feel respected, supported, and engaged in their pregnancies and births it can make a profound and long-term positive difference in their experience as mothers and in their lives in general.  I trust that pregnancy and birth are normal life-events as well as significant and challenging rites of passage.

I started attending births as a teenager and loved it.  Over the years I’ve completed a BA in women’s health, trained at a midwifery school in Texas, taught childbirth education classes to pregnant teens and Latina women, become a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM), and practiced midwifery in Costa Rica and Oregon.  I speak Spanish and am committed to serving the growing Latino population in Oregon.

I am the mom of a fantastic two year old who keeps me on my toes.  His birth affirmed for me how important this work is and I am excited to be returning to it.

It is my prayer that each woman has access to the type of personal, respectful and responsive care that she deserves.
